As UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon launched Sustainable Energy for All in 2011 as a United Nations initiative. In 2016, SEforALL was mandated by the United Nations and the World Bank to further accelerate action under the new Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), established as a quasi-international organization under Austrian law based in Vienna. We maintain a close relationship with the United Nations, including through a ten-year relationship agreement approved by the Executive Office of the Secretary-General. Supported by the SEforALL team, our CEO acts as the UN Secretary-General`s Special Representative for Sustainable Energy for All. In addition to Achim Steiner, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), she is also Co-Chair of UN-Energy, the United Nations Mechanism for Inter-Agency Cooperation in the Field of Energy. SEforALL cooperates through bilateral partnerships and other mechanisms with many UN agencies, including UNDP, UNEP, UNIDO and WHO. Finally, we work with the United Nations Foundation as a tax sponsor of SEforALL in the United States and with the United Nations Office of Project Services (UNOPS) in the management of funds, personnel contracts and procurement. .
